We were swimming at the pool on the last day of summer last year when our world turned upside down. What started out as a significant headache escalated to excruciating pain, vomiting, a rush to the ER and the discovery that our eight-year-old son, Blake, had a brain aneurism.
We were terrified, had no idea what to expect, as Blake lost consciousness and scans confirmed a very significant amount of blood in his ventricles. The fight for Blake's life began, and he was airlifted to Vidant in Greenville. Drains were inserted to slowly and carefully remove the excess blood, he had scans and surgeries, and was kept in a comatose state for over two weeks.
Every step of the way, we had the most incredible team caring for our son. Every person, from the vascular neurosurgery team to the custodian that knelt by Blake's bed to pray, became a part of the team that gave us our son back. I can't say enough words about the doctors, nurses and therapists that saved our son's life!!!
Forty-eight days after that fateful afternoon at the swimming pool, we drove Blake home. He learned to walk again, talk again, and is now a happy, healthy, always-in-a-hurry nine-year-old boy. You'd never know he'd been through something so significant if you met him!!
Since the Children's Miracle Network is unable to host their annual telethon this year, we want to help raise funds to give back to the hospital that gave us so much. We are fully convinced that heaps of prayer (a whole host of people around the world Raising a Hallelujah for Blake!) AND incredible medical care made the miracle of Blake being with us today possible.
You can help us make more miracles happen at the James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital at Vidant Medical Center. Please consider giving using the 'Give Now' button. You can also help spread the word by sharing our page with your friends, family, and on social media. The more people know about the CMN Month of Miracles and Maynard Children’s Hospital, the greater the impact we can all make together!
100% of all donations will go directly towards programs and services benefiting the thousands of sick and injured children from all over eastern North Carolina who are treated every year.
Thank you in advance for your generosity! And thank you to the MANY of you who Raised a Hallelujah for Blake in prayer, again and again, last year! We continue to say Hallelujah! We are so grateful he is alive!
P.S. Our goal is to raise $4,800 -- $100 for every day Blake was in the hospital. But wouldn't it be amazing to raise $48,000? Please give what you can to help us give back!
